How to use the word finder
Fill in any of the boxes and press Find words. You can use one filter or combine several. For example, a 5-letter word that starts with s, contains a, and doesn't contain r or t.
Using patterns
A pattern is the word with blanks for the letters you don't know. Type _ or ? for each missing letter. c_t finds cat, cot and cut, and s_a_e finds shade, skate, space and many more. Patterns are perfect for crosswords, where you know some letters from the crossing answers.
Daily word puzzles
In five-letter guessing games, put the letters you've confirmed in their spots in the pattern, letters that are in the word somewhere in Contains, and letters you've ruled out in Doesn't contain. You'll get a short list of possible answers.
Frequently asked questions
How many results can it show?
Up to 5,000 at a time. If you get that many, add another filter to narrow it down.
Can I search for words with a letter in a specific position?
Yes. Use a pattern. For example, __a__ finds 5-letter words with A in the middle.
Is the word list the same as in my game?
It's a large general English list. Games use their own dictionaries, so a few words may differ.
